Increasingly more people are convinced that urban environments limit our freedom, keep us constantly alert, cause stress and disturb our inner peace. However, the urban environments should not be considered as something that disturb our harmony, but on the contrary – contribute to it.
In order to relax and enjoy our peace of mind, we fantasize about retreats in nature far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Unfortunately, we cannot spend as much time as we want or think we need in the idyllic, green backdrops offered by natural landscapes. The reality is that urban landscape is the inevitable environment of the contemporary man. So, I ask myself: How can a contemporary city become a place of self-reflection and self-realization?
The Urban Yoga pioneers in forging a link between the self and the space, just as the practice of yoga brings oneself back in touch with the body, re-examining how our bodies inhabit urban places. The Urban Yoga calls on architects to design environments that awaken not only our sense of sight, but also our sense of smell, touch, taste and hearing. Such places spark our imagination, conjure up memories, tell stories and cradle our dreams. They take us back to the world and towards our own sense of being.
Welcome to read more in The Urban Yoga book.
All future proceeds from the books will be used for further research and production costs for the second edition of The Urban Yoga project that aims to take an utmost exciting turn! I do this so that The Urban Yoga research can remain entirely independent, self-directed, and transparent. By purchasing a book, you can help The Urban continue to grow in a way that remains focused on inspiring people to look at the magic of space, breathing new human-oriented life into the efficient and industrial world of urban architecture and design – and nothing else. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.
